The Legend Behind Lakhey

According to stories passed down through generations, the Lakhey fell in love with a girl from Majipa (old Kathmandu). Taking the form of a human, he entered the city to be near her. When the city people discovered his true identity, they presented him to the king. The king offers the Lakhey that he could stay in the city if he vowed to protect children from other demons and participate in the grand Yenya Punhi Jatra (Indra Jatra). He agreed — and it is said he still lives in Majipa to this day.
